Marksmanship

Weapon Difficulty Damage Parry Source
Crossbow* Moderately Difficult Average Useless Hermit

Notes:

* Unique.

The crossbow is the only weapon which evaluates as marksmanship--all of the others can be wielded and used as something else. Also of note, while it is useless for parrying, the crossbow is actually a pretty good weapon for disarming. It's also noteworthy that, unlike the other marksmanship weapons, the crossbow is dependant neither on thrown weapon nor archery abilities. It is based solely on your marksmanship skill.

Archery:

Archery is a rather effective way for rangers and rogues to deal damage. There are now 8 bows, the effectiveness of which is discussed below. When wielded by themselves, bows use the staff skill. Also, there are two types of arrowheads: steel and flint. The arrowhead seems to have no effect on damage done, but steel arrowheads seem to break less frequently.

Bow (Source) Description Comments
Elvish Bow
(Listhalia)
This is a handcrafted bow with the insignia of the Listan Guard burned into the bowstave. It is a bit on the small side, as it was designed for use by the elven guard. Two hands are needed to wield it. The elvish bow doesn't do very much damage. It's pretty good to start with if you have low or no archery ability, or is acceptable to use if, for some reason, you can't find any rangermade bows in shops.
Short Bow
(Rangermade)
It is a bowstave of fine wood. Two hands are needed to wield it. The lesser of the two rangermade bows, this does more damage than Elvish bow. Also a good choice to start archery with.
Fine Short Bow
(Brannon)
This is a short bowstave of high quality wood, slightly tapered at each each end. It is exceptionally well crafted and very strong. Two hands are needed to wield it. Ever-so-slightly better than the rangermade short bow, it is better nonetheless. If you're a ranger, go ahead and make your own bow, otherwise, I'd suggest going down to Brannon and picking up one of these while you're getting quivers and arrows.
Great Bow
(Drakhiya)
It's a large bowstave of fine yew; it looks like it would take great st rength to string it. Two hands are needed to wield it. Contrary to it's name, the great bow isn't that great. It's a glorified short bow, except you need to kill for it. Avoid this one.
Long Bow
(Rangermade)
It is a bowstave of fine wood. Two hands are needed to wield it. The other rangermade bow, this can dish out a good bit of damage. I'd suggest using this for archery if you can't find a Dark Bow in shops and are too wimpy to take Carcera out for his, assuming you have a higher archery ability.
Fine Long Bow
(Brannon)
This is a long bowstave of high quality wood, tapered at each end. It i s very well crafted and quite strong. Two hands are needed to wield it. Just like the fine short bow, this is a slightly better version of the long bow. The same advice applies here.
Fine, Hand-crafted Bow
(Marika)
This is a hand-crafted bow elegantly designed out of fine yew. The bow has been carefully carved by hand and appears to be virtually flawless. Two hands are needed to wield it. The premeire purchasable bow, this deals out a fair bit of damage. It still pales in comparison to the dark bow, but if mms is your best weapon, and you're looking to kill Carcera, I'd suggest finding Marika and buying this to do it with.
Dark Bow
(Carcera)
This bowstave is made from a dark wood that you do not recognise. It looks like it would be difficult to string. Two hands are needed to wield it. This is the premier bow to use for doing large amounts of damage. If you'd like to see it in action, go attack Carcera. He'll use the six arrows he has on him and smack you around pretty well with them. This is a quality weapon, and actually does a fair amount of damage as a staff between shots.

Thrown Weapons:

Weapon Comments
Dart Darts don't do very much damage, and break very easily. The only advantage to them is that they're cheap.
Turquoise Dart Turquoise darts are only usable by newbies, and cannot break. You can however, "throw it so far it gets lost," so the effect is the same. Likewise not much of a damage dealer, but it's free. One of two thrown weapons not available from the Weapon Seller.
Throwing Knife My weapon of choice for advancing thrown weapon and marksmanship, throwing knives are the perfect balance between cost and effectiveness, I think. Rogues may also buy poisoned throwing knives.
Javelin Javelins used to be the weapon of choice for thrown weapon damage, but with the addition of Fiend's new thrown weapons, they're pretty well outclassed.
Flask of Oil Flasks of oil are excellent for use in killing frost giants and other denizens of the frost giant steading, as well as anything else sensitive to heat.
Shuriken Shurikens aren't a bad choice if you want to do a bit more damage than with darts, but don't want to spend the money on throwing knives.
Barbed Dart Barbed darts do not deal all that much damage. Instead, they lower your target's dexterity by 1 point when they hit. Extremely useful, and suggested for use by all.
Boomerang Like barbed darts, boomerangs lower the dexterity of your target by one. The other advantage of these is that it will return to you, and, as such, is reusable. These are not sold, but are instead found on Sanal.
Hurlbat Hurlbats are throwing axes. They aren't bad for damage, and they're different...of course, doing things different on AA will sometimes get you mocked, but I still say it's more fun.
Hunga-munga The priemiere thrown weapon for damage, these also do a good bit of damage as a secondary weapon or knife. My rogue tends to carry a few to add to the damage he deals out.
